Hi, I’m Shelly

I love getting to work as a therapist. Forming relationships and witnessing the healing that clients go through is an enormous privilege.

I also find this work endlessly interesting. I’m a life-long-learner, and there is always more to learn and understand about people, relationships, and our experiences of being alive. I continually seek out trainings and am also part of weekly consultation rooted in psychodynamic therapy.

My Background & Training

Registered Nurse

Before becoming a therapist, I had a previous career as a Registered Nurse and spent about ten years working at hospice. This work continues to inform my current practice.

Psychoanalytic Consultation

Since 2022 I’ve been in weekly psychodynamic consultation with Miranda York. Since 2023 I’ve been in weekly or biweekly group psychoanalytic case conferences with psychoanalyst Adam Beyda.

Somatic Therapies

I’ve done over 100 hours of continuing education with Andrea Juhan, psychotherapist, dance therapist, and co-founder of Open Floor International.

I was mentored by Elaine Daly, somatic therapist in the field of sensorimotor psychotherapy from 2020-2022.

Advanced Trainings

I’ve done advanced trainings in EMDR, AEDP, and Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, in addition to the following:

Displacement, Nostalgia, and the Uncanny through NCSSP with Alexander Zinchenko, PhD

Holding Complexity - Politicized Somatics with Amanda Ream and B Stepp

Healing the Wounds of History: Healing Generational Trauma, Conflict Transformation & Peace Building with Armand Volkas

My Values

I view personal healing and cultural/collective healing as being deeply interwoven

I strive to practice from an anti-racist, anti-oppressive lens

I believe that we are all impacted by the socio-political conditions that we live in, and therefore these forces enter into the therapy room in a myriad of forms. One criticism of therapy is that it is about helping people conform to the oppressive conditions of our cultural context. I hope that instead, it can be a place for internal expansion beyond what we have been taught, and towards what for now we might only be able to imagine.
